Benny grew up in Summerville, South Carolina, playing high school football for Summerville High. After his high school career, Benny was inducted into the Summerville High School Hall of Fame as a Three-Sport Letterman. Benny went on to play at South Carolina State and then for the Charleston Hawks, a semi-pro football team, where he holds multiple records. He was then signed as a free agent with the Pittsburgh Steelers and
was part of the 1994 AFC Championship team. He was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1995 where he played out his career in 1998.  Upon finishing his successful career, Benny coached in South Carolina at Lewisville High School in Richburg. He is currently an Assistant Football Coach at Heritage High School in Lynchburg, VA, bringing his coaching expertise to coach young running backs.
He is active in various outreach efforts throughout the region and hosts an annual Celebrity Golf Tournament to raise funds to provide college scholarships to high school students in South
Carolina and Virginia.
